Veterans Need More, Not Just Talk Therapy: Why Equine-Assisted Therapy Works
Imagine a PTSD therapy session where veterans don't have to relive their trauma. Imagine a program with an 81% completion rate, where participants feel "excited to come back," "comfortable enough to be unguarded," and where "stress melts away when I drive through the gates.” Well, this is the power of the Windhaven Veterans Program, a unique equine-assisted therapy service offered by Lifeline Connections.
The Problem:
42% of veterans with PTSD drop out of traditional talk therapy, often due to the emotionally challenging nature of revisiting past trauma. This leaves them struggling with anxiety, depression, substance misuse, diminished quality of life, and far too often suicidal ideation.
Our Solution:
The Windhaven Veterans Program offers a safe, effective, and well-tolerated alternative. Partnering with horses helps veterans build trust, connect with their emotions, and find relief from the debilitating impact of PTSD. This unique approach has high satisfaction rates, impactful outcomes, and veterans reporting significant improvements in their well-being.
Why Support?
This program has the power to transform the lives of veterans, but it receives no direct funding from the Portland VA. We rely entirely on the generosity of our community to provide these vital services free of charge.
Call to Action:
Join us at the 4th Annual Windhaven Ride for Veterans! Participate, sponsor, or donate to help us raise funds and provide this vital service to those who have served our country.
