Clark Veterans Center hosts workshops on suicide education
Clark Veterans Center hosts workshops on suicide education
May 12, 2026 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver, WA 98661, USA
Clark College’s main campus at Gaiser Hall, Room 213 Clark Veterans Center hosts workshops on suicide education AROUND THE AREA Clark College’s Veterans Center is hosting four free public workshops on suicide education starting Feb. 10. The Veterans Center of Excellence is collaborating with the Portland Veterans Affairs Suicide Prevention Team to present the Awareness to Action Series: Suicide Prevention is Everybody’s Business. The multisession workshop series focuses on education, prevention and community action, according to a Clark news release. “Designed to increase awareness, build practical skills and empower participants to take an active role in suicide prevention, the series is grounded in veteran suicide prevention and open to community members,” the news release stated. Each workshop focuses on a different topic. The first one on Feb. 10 will be an overview of veteran suicide and the national strategy for preventing veteran suicide. The March 17 workshop will cover lethal means safety — safe storage of firearms and medications. On April 14, people will learn about safety plans — when and how to have one. The final workshop on May 12 will cover postvention — support after a suicide. Register for the series online. You can attend virtually; a link will be shared closer to the event date with your registration email. The Veterans Center offers tutoring, academic supplies, quiet study spaces, a computer lab with printers, practical workshops and more for veterans, active duty and military-affiliated students. It also provides supports, resources and services to meet educational and professional goals, while also addressing academic, financial, physical and social needs, according to the news release. “The series reflects Clark College’s commitment to fostering a compassionate, informed, and supportive campus and community,” the news release stated. “By combining national strategies, evidence-based practices and open dialogue, the workshops emphasize that suicide prevention is everybody’s business.” —Brianna Murschel
